weird verse.

Ch01V23 is weird in 2 respects:
1. It doesn't match the style of Dnyaneshwar.
2. The meaning i read doesn't make sense there.

Anyway, let me give the verse itself here:
jaise dolya anjan bhete |
te veli drushtisee fata fute ||
mag vaas pahije teth |
prakate mahanidhi ||23||

I wont conclude anything, but to be seen if there are more such verses.

Ganeshu-II:

Last verses of description of Ganesh:

Akara charana yugula,
Ukara udara vishal,
Makara mahamandala,
Mastakaakare [19]

He tinhi ekvatale,
Tetha shabdabrahma kavalale,
Te miya shri gurukrupa namile,
Aadhibeeja [20]

Meaning:
“A” represents pair of legs,
“U” is big belly,
“M” is large round of head
These three are unified,
And an eternal symbol is formed (A+U+M=omm),
I bow above it … so are the blessings of my Guru,
It is the seed of everything that exists.

"U" postfix used by Dnyaneshwar for some words like "GaneshU", "ParimalU" gives
an innocent cuteness to the words!!

Ganeshu

Ch1V3 to Ch1V20, Dnyaneshwar describes lord Ganesh. He praises lord Ganesh as form of all the knowledge (spiritual as well as physical) ever known. He describes him as infinite, with neither beginning nor end. Why?? Donno !!!

One of my favorite verse:

Dekha kavyanataka
Je nirdharita sakoutuka
Tyachi runazunati shudraghantika
Arthadhwani [7]

Meaning:
Look at the epics,
Think of them laudatory,
They are nothing but bells in his belt,
And their soft, beautiful jingling is meaning of those epics



Me and my sister like Ganapati coz he looks cute!! We stare at him for hours. We decorate him, photograph him. I like sketching him as well. As mom says, we do everything but worship him!!

Om Namoji Aadya !!

Title of the post is start of masterpiece by Dnyaneshwar- “Bhavaartha-Deepika Teeka”, a commentary on Bhagwad-Geeta. Also called as “Dnyaneshwari”.

Om namoji aadya,
ved pratipadya,
Jay-jay swasamvedya,

aatmaroopa [1]

Deva tuchi ganeshu,
sakal mati prakashu,
Mhane nivrutti daasu,

avadhariroji [2]

Meaning:
I bow above the eternity (one that existed even before universe ever came into existence- aadi=before),
described by Vedas (/known by getting knowledge about everything),
The one, which was self-conscious (swa-samvedya),
which had selfness [1]

Oh God, (I know you as/) you are Ganesh,
who gives light to everyone,
(I,) the servent (/student) of NivruttiNaath describes you,
may everyone listen [2]

Also, check out the rhyme patterns in the verses. 1st 3 lines in each verse rhyme (dya-dya-dya).
4th line is single word which may not rhyme. This pattern is followed in all 10,000 verses of Dnyaneshwari.
